Ballet Pianists Required
Applications close on 14 August 2019
Cover basis only
£24 per hour
ArtsEd is seeking skilled, attentive and enthusiastic ‘cover’ ballet pianists to accompany our Musical Theatre and Foundation Ballet Classes. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a range of stylistic repertoire, with a classical core supplemented by jazz, pop, rock, Latin and folk, as appropriate.
Intelligent and varied improvisation skills are desirable but not essential for pianists with a sufficiently broad repertoire. The ability to adapt existing pieces using different time signatures or named dance forms such as a waltz / polonaise / rumba etc is also useful.
Ideally, applicants will have previous ballet accompaniment experience and knowledge of typical class exercises and an ability to reflect upon the detail of settings in their musical choices or improvisations. An ability to keep strict tempo and respond positively and appropriately to directions from the teacher is essential.
Adaptable pianists with no previous ballet experience who wish to learn should apply, as appropriate guidance / training can be given to those who can demonstrate an aptitude for the role.
Positions will initially be held on a cover basis with no guarantee of hours, however there is a possibility of more permanent work in the future.
ArtsEd is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young adults and all successful candidates must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
