Community Show Choir Spring Term 2018
A New Year. A New Years resolution to do something for YOU! We all have busy lives. This evening is about meeting people and sharing a love of singing together.
Who can join the choir?
Our choir is for anyone who loves to sing, regardless of ability or experience. If you’re always singing show tunes in the car, or belting out a ballad in the shower then come and join us for a fun and uplifting session of joyous singing.
Ages 20 - 125 all welcome.
What are the benefits of singing in a choir?
It has been proven that singing is great for your wellbeing!
Professor Graham Welch, Chair of Music Education at the Institute of Education, University of London: "Singing has physical benefits because it is an aerobic activity that increases oxygenation in the blood stream and exercises major muscle groups in the upper body, even when sitting. Singing has psychological benefits because of its normally positive effect in reducing stress levels and increased sense of community, belonging and shared endeavour."

"Having Musically Directed professionally and taught in London Schools and also around the country, it is always in Community Choirs I feel the power of music have an affect the most. I think the society we live in today does nothing to aid the relief of stress but working with choirs and creating music with them seems to give people a space to relax, unwind, socialise and enjoy being in the moment of music. To connect with people in such an intimate way and realise the same vision as one team is a unique experience. I see members of choirs grow as individuals as well as musicians and singers. Growing in ways such as social interaction, confidence, communication and appreciation for others; a choir is a community, respect, care, listening to one another are all values that can be developed in this "community" and inevitably makes us better human beings, as well as musicians and singers.
With the Show Choir at ArtsEd, my aim would be to not only strive for enjoyment and creating a safe space to express oneself musically. Musical Theatre should be accessible to all, and the greatest of composers not only deserve to be sang by all but also to be heard by all, not just on the professional Stage. Our aim would be to bring the genius works of Sondheim, Flaherty, Schwartz and many more, to a community audience, using brand new arrangements, written by myself, unique to the ArtsEd show choir. "
The sessions run on Mondays 7:30pm - 9:00pm.
