ArtsEd Alumna’s Short Film Qualifies for 99th Oscars

21.10.2026

At ArtsEd, we are delighted to announce that Regressions, the 15-minute Irish family drama short film written, produced, directed, and starring Rebecca Hickey (BA (Hons) Musical Theatre alumna), has officially entered the 99th Oscar® race as an eligible contender for Best Live Action Short Film.
Set in real time around a kitchen table the night before a family funeral, the Moore brothers pressure their younger sister, Claire, to migrate home to care for their still fiercely independent mother. As both the only daughter and only childless sibling, when Claire hears their plan, tensions grow.
Rebecca Hickey says:
“Regressions came from a desire to highlight what Gen X and Millennial siblings are currently facing,”  “As they grapple with shouldering familial responsibility not only of the next generation, but also the one that came before, the question is: what division of labour, amongst siblings, is actually fair?”
Rebecca has long proven her relentless creative drive across both stage and screen. At 20, she directed the Irish premiere of the hit Broadway show Hair, The Musical, at Dublin’s Helix Theatre for DCU, which went on to win an AIMS Award. At 26, she solo-produced and starred in the critically acclaimed revival of Neil LaBute’s dark masterpiece Bash: Latterday Plays. The production transferred from a 50-seat fringe venue above a pub to London’s prestigious West End at Trafalgar Studios.
Congratulations, Rebecca, from all of us at ArtsEd!
