The Duke temporarily leaves his corrupt city to a strict deputy, Angelo, who harshly enforces a law against premarital sex. When young Claudia becomes pregnant by her fiancé Julien, Angelo condemns her to death. Claudia’s sister, novice nun Isabella, pleads for her sister’s life. Angelo, however, offers Isabella a monstrous deal: her virtue in exchange for Claudia’s freedom, forcing her to confront a complex moral dilemma about justice, power, and desire.
